About Us

Summer Social is a half-day therapeutic camp where kids ages 5-13 can learn, grow, and make lasting friendships! We blend top-notch teaching with tons of fun and exciting ways for campers to connect with their peers. Whether it's spring break or summer, we’ve got the perfect camp session to jump into!

Summer Social is part of the So Social Centre, which offers year-round services for kids and teens, providing a safe, supportive space for them to thrive all year long.

At Summer Social, we use the awesome Social Thinking curriculum to help campers understand themselves and the people around them. Our goal? To help them turn that knowledge into real-life skills to form stronger, more meaningful connections with others. Created by Michelle Garcia Winner, Social Thinking is a globally recognized approach that’s perfect for kids working on social skills.

Social Thinking is all about using our brains to process and apply social knowledge to navigate social situations. It’s a form of intelligence that influences how we learn, integrate and apply socially relevant information in meaningful ways. Click below to learn more!

Group Matching

At Summer Social, campers are grouped into super fun, small pods with up to just 3-4 campers each! We make sure to match campers based on things like age, grade level, language skills, coping strategies, and motivation to ensure everyone gets the most out of their experience. Each pod has one or more awesome leaders who are in charge of planning fun lessons, leading activities, and making sure everyone is having a great time! Our careful matching is one of the secret ingredients to the camp’s success, helping campers connect and grow while having a blast!

Higher Needs Campers

At Summer Social, we’ve got a super supportive behavior program for campers with more significant behavioral and/or learning needs. This program runs alongside our regular camp sessions, so everyone can join in on the fun! Kids who need a little extra help get paired with a 1:1 behaviour interventionist and placed in a small, carefully matched group of peers, led by an awesome group leader.

Our behaviour interventionists have prior experience and training in ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis), plus they get the same top-notch training and supervision as our entire staff. Behaviour support plans are developed and supervised by our, Nikki Fung and Taylor Shannik—both Board Certified Behaviour Analysts (BCBA). And we love teaming up with the child's private behaviour consultant to make sure each camper gets the best support possible!

Session in Progress

Parent Talk Time

At Summer Social, we know that real progress happens when caregivers are involved and learning continues outside of camp! It’s key for parents and caregivers to learn the same strategies and concepts as their kids, so they can support new skills at home and school.

That’s why we’ve included weekly Parent Talk Time where caregivers meet with our directors and program managers to go over learning goals, lesson content, cueing strategies, and individual progress.

Attending these sessions is essential for reinforcing those awesome new skills away from camp. We ask that caregivers join us for one session each week their child is at camp—it's a great way to stay connected and keep the learning going strong!
