CAN I USE AUTISM FUNDING TO PAY FOR CAMP?
Yes! You will need to pay a deposit when you register to confirm your space in camp. On the first day, we'll have you fill out the necessary paperwork and we will submit the forms. We mail you your deposit back as soon as we receive full payment from the Ministry of Children and Families.
WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR A DEPOSIT?
Every year we turn away families who want to attend camp. Your deposit ensures that you will indeed be sending your child to camp. For those paying with Autism Funding, it helps ensure a smooth payment process.
HOW MANY CAMPERS ARE THERE AT A TIME?
Each child is grouped in a group of three, with one 'pod leader' for that group. There are no more than 33 campers at one time.
ARE THERE SCHOLARSHIPS?
Yes. We strongly believe that financial hardship should not prohibit a student from attending Summer Social. Partial scholarships are awarded based on need.
IS MY KID A GOOD CAMP CANDIDATE?
If your child is socially awkward (having trouble with friendships at school, is bullied, shy, etc. then yes, we have other campers who will be attending for the very same reasons.
DOES MY CHILD NEED A DIAGNOSIS TO ATTEND CAMP?
No. Though many of our campers have a diagnosis, not all of them do.
CAN I SEND MY BEHAVIOURAL INTERVENTIONIST TO CAMP WITH MY CHILD?
Yes. Behavioural interventionists are required to attend all staff trainings. The camp directors will collaborate with your family's behaviour consultant on a version of the home behaviour plan that will work for camp.
IS THIS CAMP AFFILIATED WITH ANYTHING?
Though the Bethlehem Lutheran Church has been a huge support to us over the years by offering us their awesome space, we are not in any way affiliated.
CAN I WATCH CAMP ACTIVITIES?
Sorry, in our experience parents watching causes both nervous children and teachers, and crowds our little space. We'll make sure you hear all about your camper's day!
ARE THERE 'NEUROTYPICAL' KIDS AT CAMP TOO?
Yes. We do our best to match campers by ability. Our highest level campers are frequently matched with 'neurotypical' kids who attend camp. Often, these are siblings of other campers. If you are interested in sending more than one child, please let us know.
IS THIS REALLY THERAPY?
Yes, yes it is. Campers are taught skills in structured settings and then cued to help carryover learned concepts straight away. Camp is hard work for students who find social situations challenging.
WHICH WEEK SHOULD I SIGN UP FOR?
We strongly encourage new campers to attend week 1 as well as any other weeks. Returning campers are welcome to attend any or all of the weeks.
DO THE LESSONS CHANGE EACH WEEK OF CAMP?
Yes. We ensure that children attending multiple weeks of camp do not have any repeat lessons.
WHAT ARE THE OUTINGS?
It's a secret until the first day of camp! Please email us if you have any concerns about any previous outings that we have had.
